Description
The quilt was made up of very different patches and colors. Each equally sized patch is dominating the quilt, and have its own specific meaning. It seems as if the patches might symbolize culture. Each square depicts a different image, while some are just blank colors of blue, yellow, and green. Some images depicted include sculpted pots, sculptures, and various patterns of lines. The quilt represents various organizations as well by having their name in a patch. For instance, "Y.M.C.A. of Pomona Valley," and The Kiwanis Club of Pomona Valley just to name a couple.

Remarks
This quilt can be considered art because it is definitely something man-made and sewn very creatively. The colors are vibrant, and the quilt has a lot going on at the same time. It adds to the imagery presented by it, and considering it is in a library, it definitely resembles a piece of artwork, since libraries itself carry the art of literature among other forms. The is aesthetically pleasing as it demonstrates technique, form, and perfectionism since all the squares are the same size, and is bordered neatly. The creator purposely chose where to create an image in the square and where to just put color. This quilt is significant to preserve because it is something unique and something everyone is bound to notice as they walk down the stairway. It can be supportive of the community since it is found in the Public Library. It also can represent the importance of a quiltmaker and the impact they can make. For instance, in a source entitled "Beauty Laid Bare: Aesthetics in the Ordinary, " the author discusses her grandmothers appreciation for the natural world, color and harmony, which may explain why she is a quiltmaker. The author states that as a quiltmaker she was constantly creating new worlds, discovering new patterns, different shapes. (Beauty Laid Bare: Aesthetics in the Ordinary, " bell hooks) Hence this shows why quiltmakers and their work need to be respected because clearly they can contribute to new ideas of form and perspective, which are all qualities of art.
