Description
This mural is three stories high and has various images representing different characteristics of life, serenity, and change. On the left side is a snowy depiction of life in the fields. As we move to the other side, we come across a colorful bowl of fruit and flowers, the Roman Goddess,Pomona, blessing the city as white doves are set free over a city of villages, an African-American man playing the saxophone, and people of all ages and ethnicities gathered in a circle, "on top of the world." One lady in particular is pregnant and her stomach resembles a bubble in which the fetus is clearly shown. The colors of the portrait are very lightly shaded, but not too bright either. This appears as a very quiet portrait based on the images provided.

Remarks
This huge mural can definitely be considered art because it is created with aesthetic intent to appeal to all residents of Pomona since there are many aspects of it open to interpretations. It encourages viewers to think about how they may be able to connect it to it and bring out deeper meanings. Throughout the mural there are many symbols that are significant to understanding how this may revolve around the city of Pomona. For example, the doves symbolize peace around the world and specifically Pomona appears as a very peaceful community. The fact that both white and African-American individuals are depicted in the scene invites cultural unity among the city. This portrait also represents change in the community through the seasonal adjustments in the painting. Change as well as birth is evident with the pregnant woman. Not only is this mural aesthetically pleasing to the passerby in downtown Pomona, but it is significant in that it contributes to the citys "local character" since it is defining of the citys name and historically known agricultural fruitfulness. The mural is a collaboration of a community art project led by Judy Chicago, and designed by Kevin Stewart-Magee. More than 35 artists and helpers and a years effort was involved. A Cal Poly Fine Arts student, Karen Keller, also participated during her senior year. She planned to be a high school fine arts teacher and chose this as a learning experience opportunity.
