St. Paul's Lutheran church 610 N. San Antonio Pomona, Ca. 91767
The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod congregation began holding services in January of 1920 in the second floor room of the Odd Fellows Hall on the corner of Second Street and Park Avenue. By September the congregation was organized as St. Pauls Lutheran Church. In 1923 the services were moved to the Ebell Club at Holt and Caswell Avenues. In 1924, they incorporated as a congregation and purchased the property on which the church is located today for $850. The original church was built in 1925 based on the plans of Grace Lutheran Church in San Diego at a cost of $3,000. It was built using both volunteer and hired help and seated one hundred. In 1930 the lot immediately south of the church was purchased at a cost of $850 with the intent of building a larger sanctuary. However it was not until 1941the plans were drawn and the building began. The old building was turned and joined to the newly constructed sanctuary and serves as the Parish Hall. The present sanctuary was dedicated on October 11, 1942 in the midst of World War II. At times the construction on the building had stopped as it was impossible to obtain nails due to the war shortages. The school was established in the fall of 1947. The south wing of the school was built in 1950. The north wing of the school and the office wing were added in 1953. The school was closed at the completion of the 1986/87 school year due to declining enrollment after having provided an education to children for forty years.
