Flags of Alaska and Hawaii Help Convert Pomona Mall Into 'Avenue of States' Pomona, Calif. -- Hawaii and Alaska, last to gain statehood, became the first states in the union to fly their flags on the new Pomona Downtown Pedestrian Mall in anticipation of the mall being converted into an Avenue of the United States and the Americas for a forthcoming United States Mayors' Workshop (Nov. 16-17) on how this city of 75,000 cured its downtown core blight by private subscription of property owners, without taxpayers' money.
