Santa Fe wreck at No. Pomona in late 1890's 45 Years Ago April 5, 1899 The Santa Fe Limited was wrecked at North Pomona Tuesday. The engine, as the result of the breaking of one of the pistons or driving rods, was broken loose from the train and ran free to Lordsburg before it stopped. The tender and baggage car ran onto the siding and jumped the track, as did all the coaches except the last one. The baggage car was smashed into splinters. the dining car was nearly as badly damaged. The running gear was torn from nearly all the coaches. Along the track beside the train was a mass of wreckage consisting of broken rails and running gear, with dishes, vegetables, chickens and other fowl from the dining car strewn over it. J. E. Packard was on the train coming from the east but got off at San Bernardino. (Apr. 3, '44)
