The first Christian service of the Pomona Valley occurred under a spreading oak tree at 458 Kenoak Place in Pomona where Padre Zalvideo of Mission San Gabriel offered a Mass of Thanksgiving and pronounced his benediction upon the families of Vejar and Palomares. When the Palomares and Alvarado adobes were built in 1838 services were held in their private chapels. In 1885 the first resident pastor was assigned and the first parish church was built at Monterey and Park. In 1898 Friar Fischer established St. Josephs Catholic School staffed by the Holy Named Sisters of Oakland. In 1905 a new church was built and which served Pomona Catholics until 1954 when the construction of the new church on the present 18-acre site was begun. Magr. Thomas P. English supervised the construction of the new church. Pomona Catholic High School was established by Msgr. English in 1949.A large round stained glass window with panels.
